Yes! 31DAYS is an official industry initiative of Alliance SwissPass and SBB. Together, we want to drive the mobility transition in Switzerland forward.
Methodology & sources:
We calculate the CO2 saved in three steps: 31 car-free days (daily distance{fn1} × share of private motorised transport{fn1} × 31 days), then the shift to public transport{fn5},{fn6} and car sales{fn3},{fn4}. Every car kilometre avoided saves a net {net} g CO2 (car fleet minus public transport mix{fn2}). The impact over 1 and 5 years takes rebound effects into account{fn7}.
